Birthday Cake facts

In the US it is very common for you to celebrate your birthday with a wonderfully designed and tasty birthday cake. Remember, the Greeks were the first to celebrate with a cake. It was usually used when the birthdays of the gods and goddesses were celebrated.

If you were pondering on who decided to put candles on the top of the cakes- it was the Greeks who came up with that idea too. Because if the Greek god Artemis, where the cake was topped with lighted candles.

In medieval times, the British baked meaningful things into this cake. Each thing predicted something in the future of the finder.

You will see that items such as coins, jewelry, and thimbles are included as part of and actually baked into the cake.
The Western culture got introduced to the birthday cake in the mid 19th century and since then the birthday cake has played important role in the birthday celebrations.

There are some superstitions that believe pertaining to the way it is cut. If the knife touches the bottom, or when pulling the knife from the cake itself there are pieces of cake stuck to the knife, than the birthday person must kiss the nearest person of the opposite sex.

Alot of people generally blow out the candles on their cake and hope for somethinhg special, but, the idea is to really blow them all out at once. People believe that you will get your wish if you blow the candles out all together and you don’t tell anyone what you wished for.

Typically, a birthday cake is decorated with lots of flowers and balloons, but it is covered in bright colors. A popular kid’s cake topper is their favorite cartoon character.

You will find that there are a lot of people who will make their own cake or bake a semi-home cake from a package, or the birthday cake can cost up to a few hundred dollars.
