The Harry Potter stories and movies have an enthused group of fans in the world
I am always impressed by the heavy global success of the Harry Potter novels. The Harry Potter books were written by the UK writer J.K. Rowling. She saw the light of day on 31 July 1965. Her name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the abbreviation J.K. Rowling because in the beginning her publishing company considered it was a beneficial idea to hide the matter that she is a woman. The publisher thought it might have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody promptly recognizes that the author is female. Consequently, instead of revealing her first name she used two letters. As she has no middle name she took Kathleen as basis for the K. in her pen name. Kathleen is the name of her grandmother.
The very first Harry Potter story – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was published in 1997 in the UK. Quite funny is the aspect that only 1,000 units of the first book were published at the beginning. The original title of the story was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the novel was publicized to the American market place on 1 September 1998, it was named Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.
After that Joanne invented 6 additional Harry Potter stories. Now the Harry Potter series is made of a total of seven stories. These are:
- Novel 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
- Novel 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Novel 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Novel 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
- Novel 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
- Novel 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- Novel 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
The Harry Potter novels have been translated into over 65 languages and have been released in many countries. Besides the big success in the USA and Great Britain, Harry Potter is also noticeably popular in European countries. The Harry Potter books have been publicized to the German public under the following headers:
- Book 1: Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen
- Book 2: Harry Potter und die Kammer des Schreckens
- Book 3: Harry Potter und der Gefangene von Askaban
- Book 4: Harry Potter und der Feuerkelch
- Book 5: Harry Potter und der Orden des Phoenix
- Book 6: Harry Potter und der Halbblutprinz
- Book 7: Harry Potter und die Heiligtuemer des Todes
I must admit that I did not have the opportunity to read all those stories. But there are fans who know them all, which is quite remarkable and makes up the tremendous success.
